Many people suffer from fear of crowd and their voice is damaged. One-on-one they will speak in a loud and fluent voice, but as soon as a crowd forms, suddenly everything and the voice disappears. It may be difficult for a person with a fear of crowds to accept this, but 70-80% of the population suffers from it to a certain extent (depending on which study you read), and for about a quarter it is a real phobia.
The good news is, you can learn to overcome it. You can stand on stage, give a speech, talk, present or sing in front of an audience and not die. Even more than that: you can even enjoy it.
How does fear of the crowd affect the voice?
It causes the secretion of adrenaline which causes alertness in the muscles - sometimes the lung muscles become contracted and then the breathing becomes short or fast, sometimes the muscles of the throat contract and the vocal cords with them, and then the result is a trembling, hoarse or weak voice. Sometimes the jaw muscles contract and the lips become pursed, causing slurred speech, slurred speech, or an aggressive tone.

How does the voice and speech affect crowd fear?
Surprisingly, improper use of voice and breathing can exacerbate existing audience fear. Improper breathing (too fast or too shallow) causes stress and distress. Problems with the voice (too weak, shrill or shrill) and speech (stuttering or mumbling) also cause increased stress because they cause self-criticism that sometimes increases the symptoms even more.
What is the treatment?
Because fear of crowds affects the voice, and the voice affects back the fear of crowds, their treatment is combined. These lessons touch on a number of topics, according to the student's situation:
- Help in changing limiting beliefs
- Receiving tools that provide security on a physical level
- Learning ways of coping ("lifebuoys") for cases where fear returns in the middle.

Vared is a musician and singer who herself suffered from paralyzing stage fright and overcame it through various workshops in Holland. From her deep experience she works today with singers and people who need to talk. The tools she gives can, with practice, help people overcome their fear and be able to stand in front of an audience and sometimes even enjoy it.
The process begins with an active diagnosis and from there to a series of exercises and techniques that will help you regain control over yourself. The method requires a lot of practice, but many students leave the first lesson with an improved sense of self.
Voice development is not only for those who want to sing
In a normal voice development class, a lot is touched on the music and how the voice sounds. Even in our voice development classes, how the voice sounds is important to us, but the overall picture is also important to us. In voice development classes, singing exercises are used to improve speech, and singers' techniques are used to improve performance in general.
