Self-marketing in front of an audience
Self marketing: A series of articles on self-marketing Infront of audience, face to face, andin writing. tips for the self-employed and also for employees
There are many more occasions when we are in front of an audience than people tend to think - a party at work, a child's birthday, a family meal or a public singing evening. What is important is to take advantage of all of them for the purpose of self-marketing and not just those where speaking in front of an audience is 'formal'.
- Insert a joke about your profession
If the situation is completely non-business (a Purim party at the son's kindergarten or a company birthday) it is impossible to include an explanation of what you do at work or what services your business provides. On the other hand, you can always tell a self-indulgent joke about your occupation without it seeming pushy. This will inform everyone present in your field of activity, and allow those interested in the field to contact you. For example, at a Purim party you can open "As a doctor who dresses up every morning with a smock and a stethoscope..." and at a birthday party you can "As an accountant, people expect you to count well, but even though I know how many years we've known each other it seems like yesterday that..."
Just make sure it's at least half funny. - Leave your contact information in every presentation
Even if the situation is non-sales (a paper at a university, a work plan at an organization) practice putting your contact information in every presentation you give. That way whoever wants to get you can.
It is especially important to leave a final page with your details in large print when you finish and the question and answer phase begins. In this way, they are in front of the audience's eyes throughout the report so that everyone can see and be impressed.
