The debate club Ours meets weekly on Wednesday evenings and we are now doing an introductory event for new participants
At each meeting, speech and persuasion techniques are learned, divided into rival groups ('government' and 'opposition'), given a controversial topic and a time frame for preparation, and then the action begins... Each group has to present the most convincing arguments for its side, attack the opposing group's arguments and take it out from equilibrium. At the end they shake hands, and the instructor gives tips to the winners and losers.
In introductory meetings for new participants, the topics are easier, and the groups are combined so that each new participant is paired with an old participant who will initiate him
Timetable
- 18:00 gathering and refreshments
- 18:30 - Opening: getting to know the world of debate
- 19:00 - Introductory round for old and new participants
- 19:30 - Divide into teams and get the topic of the debate
- 20:00 - the beginning of the first debate
- 20:20 - End of the first debate, announcement of winners and feedback
- 20:40 - the beginning of the second debate
- 21:00 - End of the second debate, announcement of winners and feedback
- 21:30 Graduation and social gathering
