Presentation of the subject: raising tuition fees
Presentation of positions on the state of the academy within the framework Speech and Debate Club
Speech by Aviv Kochav, economist and accountant I want to talk to you today about tuition financing, and especially focus on the form of financing - who should pay. My main argument is that you have to pay for a good product, and the ones who have to pay it are the students. I will present a value argument, the level of studies, a social argument, and an empirical argument social argumentFrom a value point of view, we will agree that the university exists to research and obtain knowledge, and for that we need resources and we need researchers and we need equipment. to explore and move forward. This value is something that should be maintained, and the financial side is a means and not an end. It is not an expense or a waste. It is an investment that will return to the public in the form of profits, tax payments, less unemployment, less crime and possibly more health. It is true that it will take a very long time for this investment to return, but this is exactly the reason why the state should be the one taking care of it. The financial argumentThere are three methods of financing intellectual property - public, personal, and integrated (subsidized). Paradoxically, when the state funds the studies, it turns out that the taxpayers pay. In every population there are failed layers that are difficult to reach and align with others. For those who have difficulties in existence, it is more difficult to get to the university at one level. The empirical argumentThere are arguments that the enrollment rate for the first year in universities that do not charge tuition like in Germany is no different than in places where they do charge money. The reason for this is probably because tuition is only one element out of many considerations regarding academia - for example, what do I want to work in, or am I willing to give up a few years of my life to study. This way you can get the registration and still raise the money. Sign up for the course: How to present a topic |
