Presentation of a subject - to separate the research from the teaching

This speech was presented as part of part II of the discussion that dealt with proposals to improve higher education by Manny Ben Israel - an economist.

I want to speak in favor of separating research from teaching. I am charged that the level of teaching will increase, the level of research will increase and the cost will decrease. If we allow researchers to engage only in research, the products for the economy will increase.

In my opinion, following my proposal, the level of teaching in universities will rise - students suffer quite a lot in classes - many researchers do not know how to convey material. The satisfaction of the students in the cants. What is wanted in the country is to see greater benefits.  
If we separate, we can see more professional graduates, who come to work more prepared and able to produce better products.

Research improvement

On the other hand, the quality of the research will also improve because the researchers will be engaged in what they came to the university for, the state will benefit more here too - if we make the two separations, the knowledge in the economy will increase, because those who know how to research will research and those who know how to teach will learn.

If we look, for example, at the Weizmann Institute, where only research is involved and there are almost no courses, you can see that its research output is much higher. For example, at the Hebrew University, it takes a doctoral student 5-10 years to complete a doctorate in science, and at the Weizmann Institute he is out the door with his degree within 3 years.
