Presentation of the issue: to leave the university tuition as it is
Presentation of positions on the state of the academy within the framework Speech and Debate Club
Speech by Moshe Zarihan - software engineer Tonight I want to present three arguments why it is not worthwhile to raise tuition fees: the weak classes, the advantage of more academic graduates, and the risk that the money will go to a handful, will not change anything. I do not suggest downloading it because I know there is no money, but in no way should it be uploaded. The problem of the weak and social justiceI graduated three years ago, it cost about twelve thousand shekels in terms of tuition, and to that you have to add more costs of housing, travel, etc. A student's salary is two thousand, charming three thousand shekels, which enables existence - but barely. So if there is a higher tuition, the ones who will be hurt are the weaker sections, those who need money from their parents to study. For them it will make the difference between studying with difficulty and not studying at all. I had to finance myself, so I missed a lot of lectures, I missed a lot of classes and I couldn't study in peace and fun. Damage to the number of academics in the countryThe state's interest - from a social and budgetary point of view - is to have more academics because they contribute more to society and are not a burden. Those who are academics have a regular job and an adequate salary, and pension arrangements and have a future - and therefore less of a burden on the state. Furthermore, in advanced ages people cannot continue working in physical jobs and become dependent on the state. It is also important to remember that most academics also earn more, they also pay more tax, so it is in the interest of the state. where will the money goIn recent years, with all the strikes, all the money went mainly to the senior staff and not to improving the research institutes, etc. That's why I pulled out data from the Internet, which showed that the academic staff lived not bad at all. From a survey of 4,500 researchers, lecturers and administrative personnel, it turned out that the salary ranges from 14-19,000 each month and this is a very nice salary, well above double the average, and this does not include two months off and once in a few years also a sabbatical year. It includes only 6 hours of lecture, and the rest of the time is devoted to research and private lessons. In short, they have the ability to increase their salary in additional jobs such as consulting or teaching at another institution. SummaryIn conclusion, the requirement should not be what the level of the studies is, but that there should be an opportunity to study for fun, and that it should be available.
