Presentation of the subject - do not touch the tuition fee
Public discussion on the state of the academy within Speech and Debate Club
A speech by Mani Ben Israel - an economist I want to talk about the tuition fee - I want to keep it at the current level and I will present several reasons for this: the economic crisis, an international comparison, a way out of the cycle of poverty. The economic crisisI want to respond to what was said In Vladimir's speech that it is not possible for the state to finance the participation in tuition fees. I want to share with Vladimir and say that the question is who can do more, the student or the state - in my opinion it is the state. The student has other difficulties - he has to work to finance his studies but also food and an apartment, there are those who must do this in order to succeed. International comparisonMy second argument is that when we compare ourselves to Europe and America we are in a good place in the middle - we need some kind of proportionality in what we do. If you look at France and Germany, only registration fees are paid, everything else is paid by the state. In America tens of thousands of dollars, and we are somewhere in the middle. The cycle of povertyThe third argument is that this is the best way to get out of the cycle of poverty, and in this regard I myself am the example. In my family I am the only one who studied out of all 6 people. We had no money and they couldn't help me, but I worked for a whole year to save, I used the scholarships I received every year for Farah and Dean and every scholarship there is. When you think about it, I didn't work and when I think about those who have to work - like doctors, it's just not perceived the difficulty. How much can a student?
