Tonight I was interviewed by Gali IDF to analyze Donald Trump's coronation speech. The speech was defined by American commentators, live, as 'one of the most extreme speeches' of an American president.

At first glance, I'm not sure I agree.

Trump's speech undoubtedly deviated from some conventions, but he did exactly what Trump did throughout the campaign - and even in somewhat refined, snakey tones - which was to convince with the direction of agreement.

In the interview I showed what techniques Trump used, but there are a few more explanatory words I wanted to add - you should listen to the interview first.

I'll give two words of theory and then we'll see what Trump did, and why his supporters loved it so much (and his opponents get sick):

So how do you convince the convinced?

A speaker who comes to give a speech should always decide whether his speech is intended to strengthen an existing position of the audience, or to change it.

Because there is a night and day difference between them, and Trump always chooses to go with the existing position. And when you go with it to the end, you can call this technique 'incitement'.

On the other hand, when you go against the existing position - you constantly try to reach even those who do not agree with you, and you lose a little of the existing supporters and this action is called 'missionary'

So how does Trump 'incite'?

So what Trump did was to strengthen those who support him, and his technique was to emphasize the 'them versus us'. He defined several enemies: the political establishment, companies that fire workers and close factories in favor of abroad, and of course Islamic terrorism.

It's an effective technique because a lot of people feel that disconnected politicians, disconnected executives, and online terrorists are the enemy. And that's exactly how Trump managed to get so much support.

And Obama?

This is of course the opposite technique from the one that Obama used when he was elected president - Obama constantly tries to appeal to the other side as well
