The gap cave was flooded by the rains
Per's Cave in the Upper Galilee is (or maybe was)
One of the most magical places in Israel.
Every time it rained, a real miracle happened in the cave: the rainwater and snow that fell on the Adir Mountains and the branches of Mount Meron flowed into the gap, then into the cave and then... that's it. They just got swallowed up in the cave.
The large and ancient oak trees that surround the cave also contribute to the magical atmosphere, the strange sight of the ground that sinks into the gorge, and the Druze legends tell of objects and pets that were swept into the cave and then emerged from the springs of Nahal Kasiv.
Even the scientists say there is something to the assumption that the water that penetrated the cave comes from these springs. Their explanation is that it is a crusty sinkhole with an underground fissure that drains Bekat Per. And this combination has made Merat Phar a destination for magic enthusiasts as well as scientists and geologists.
Even myself, as a fan of magic and geology, discovered that the cave instills in you a kind of atmosphere that is not found anywhere else and I took every opportunity to bring the heiress (pictured on the left) to connect with the legend. until yesterday
Winter 2021: The cave is flooded
Because yesterday, after the snows of February 2021, we came to visit the cave, and we were amazed to discover, in a place where there was a sinkhole, a gorge and a cave - and now there is a huge lake there with an area of several hundred square meters, maybe even several dunams, and a depth of tens of meters.
The lake includes the entire sinkhole and the surrounding areas. A smaller sinkhole located close to the main sinkhole also filled with water and became a small lake in itself.
The logical explanation is that some of the cracks in the rock that allowed the water to seep closed and now the water that flowed into the cave dried up and turned into a lake that swallowed the cave.
Will the crack open in the future? Will the magical cave that was there return and be revealed? We will probably only know that in the future.
Warning: entering the cave during rain was extremely dangerous, and probably even now you have to be very careful when swimming or diving in the lake!
